Welcome to the League of Women Voters of Florida. During the spring of 1939, women in Winter Haven, Winter Park-Orlando and St. Petersburg, with the assistance of a past president of the national League, participated in the reorganization of the League which had been disbanded in 1937. The program of the new League was ambitious: (1) survey of state and county school systems, (2) study of state and local government and (3) foreign policy of the United States. With 27 Leagues spread through out the state, The League Of Women Voters Of Florida continues to study issues and promote political responsibility through informed and active participation in government. The League welcomes all people who have an interest in issues affecting them and their communities. The League works to build citizen participation in the democratic process and enables people to seek positive solutions to public policy issues through a process of study, consensus, and advocacy. While Leagues everywhere share fundamental similarities such as our non-partisan policy, each League has its own special characteristics. The League is organized to parallel the three levels of government: local, state and national. Any person of voting age, male or female, who subscribes to the purposes and policy of the League, may become a League member. All members receive subscriptions to the National Voter, the Florida Voter, and the Voter of their local League.
